One of the most crucial components of any home is its electrical system. Electrical systems may be safety hazards if not properly maintained.
With the recent storms these past years in the New Orleans Metro area, there may be a need for a quality safety inspection. NOTE: ALL INSPECTIONS MUST BE COMPLETED BY A LOUISIANA STATE LICENSED ELECTRICIAN

If you have damaged or exposed wiring in your home, it can lead to deadly electrocutions and fires. If your home does not have surge protection, your valuable items, including your important computer files, can be extensively damaged or lost.

Why get a safety inspection?
Periodic Inspection and Testing, often referred to as Fixed Wire testing, is now a mandatory requirement. It is a prerequisite under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 that electrical installations are inspected and tested.
Many other companies may also require that an Inspection & Test programmed is implemented including; Insurance Companies, Mortgage Lenders, Licensing Authorities, Public Bodies and Landlords. If this is not undertaken it may void a Company’s insurance policies.
The fundamental reason for Periodic Inspection and Testing of an electrical installation is to determine whether existing installations are safe to remain in service until the next inspection is due. A periodic inspection is required to assess the condition of the electrical installation and compliance with BS 7671.
All installations are subject to wear and tear, corrosion excessive loading and other environmental issues. Any of these can lead to major electrical breakdowns if they are not observed and rectified at regular intervals.
According to a recent study on behalf of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America, nearly one in four owners don’t practice good electrical hygiene. They never check for frayed or overheated cords, overloaded outlets or circuits, or even for light bulbs that are the wrong wattage.
According to the National Fire Prevention Association, more than half the deaths resulting from fires occur in the five percent of the houses without smoke alarms. And in 25 percent of the reported home fires, NFPA says the alarms failed to operate.
